Priyanka Chopra Rises Against the Norms of Fair Skin
Although early life of Priyanka Chopra was smooth due to her financially strong background, but she did faced a lot of criticism and struggles on her journey to become the star that she is now.
Belonging to a small town of Jamshedpur (Bihar) born to Indian Army doctor parents, things were never easy for her as they kept moving around different stated throughout the country, as for this Priyanka did get to see a lot and experience different cultured within our country.
A big change came when she moved to US at the age of 13 to pursue education abroad. The time when she was criticized for not being fair and for being brown she often faced criticism from her peers at that time. Being called Brownie and Curry asked to go back on the elephant, are some crude remarks she often faced from her bullies at the school. However, this did not stop her and she made up her mind to stand up for issues related skin color and racism, in her own words:
I do want to create a world for my future kids where they don’t have to think about diversity, where they’re not talking about it because it’s normal.
At times what deeply hit us either changes us in the best way and makes us the best version of ourselves and something this sort happened with Priyanka too.
Winning the Title
A beautiful brown girl competing against white girls in the Miss world competition in the year 2000 was a daunting task that she decided to take it in her stride and get the bulls by the horn. Displaying her cultural values and her intelligence in the contest she won the Miss World pageant and there things changed for many girls who were not as per the white skinned beauty standards set by the industry and by the society at large. She proved to everyone that beauty comes from within and confidence is the key to success.
Although the decision to enter the contest was made by her mom who submitted the entry unbeknown to her, but this did became a turning point for her at the time proving that fate always blesses the brave.
Challenge at Bollywood
Bollywood was her next challenge that initially made it hard for her to be accepted as an actress and she kept struggling against all the odds and remarks that often were about her skin color. However, she kept going and landed her debut in Hero: A story of a spy and there on she started landing roles in Bollywood where her turning point became when the movie Fashion became a successful hit. Now she is looked upon and admired by many as a style icon, a beauty with a cause and an actress of repute who went on to join Hollywood and married the most influential singer Nick Jonas. She is always in the limelight for her fashion sense and her ability to speak her mind inspiring the youth and supporting UN cause.
